MY OWN TRUE FAMILY

কবিতাটির বঙ্গানুবাদ :
একদা আমি চুপিসারে এক থাকের বনে ঢুকেছিলাম
—একটি পুরুষ হরিণ দেখতে পাবার আশায়।
জীর্ণ বন্ধু আর গাঁট গাঁট লাঠি হাতে এক খুনখুনে
বুড়ির সঙ্গে সেখানে আমার দেখা হয়েছিল
সে বলেছিল আমার এই ছোট্ট ব্যাগে তোর সব রহস্য রয়েছে।
তারপর সে কর্কশ স্বরে যেই হাসতে শুরু করল
অমনি আমি ভয়ে কাপতে শুরু করলাম।
সে তার ছোট্ট ব্যাগটা খুলতেই
আমি যেন বিপুল ভাবে জেগে উঠলাম--
আমাকে ঘিরে ধরে দেখে যাচ্ছিল একদল উপজাতি
এবং আমাকে বেঁধে রাখা হয়েছিল একটা খোঁটায়।
ওরা বলেছিল, 'আমরা হলাম সব গুরুগাছেদের দল
আর তোমার নিজের আসল পরিবার।
এই যে আমাদের কেটে ফেলা হচ্ছে,
আমাদের ছিন্নবিচ্ছিন্ন করে ফেলা হচ্ছে,
তবু তুমি দেখেও দেখছ না। তাই—
এখন যদি তুমি একটা প্রতিজ্ঞা না করো।
তাহলে এক্ষুনি তুমিও মারা যাবে।
"যখনই তুমি দেখবে যে একটা ওক গাছ কাটা পড়েছে
প্রতিজ্ঞা করো এখন যে তুমি দুটো গাছ লাগাবে।
যদি তুমি প্রতিজ্ঞাটা না করো কালো ওকের বাকল
তোমার সারা দেহ কুশিত করে দেবে এবং
ওকেদের মধ্যে তোমাকে শিকড় করেই রাখবে
যেখানে তুমি জন্মেছিলে বটে
কিন্তু কোনোদিনই বেড়ে ওঠো নি।'
বড়ো বড়ো ডালপালাগুলোর নীচে
এটাই ছিল আমার স্বপ্ন--
সেই স্বপ্নটি যা আমাকে পরিবর্তিত করে দিয়েছিল।
ওকের বন থেকে যখন আমি বেরিয়ে এসেছিলাম
পুনরায় ফিরেছিলাম মানুষের সান্নিধ্যে --
তখন আমার হাঁটাটা ছিল এক মানবশিশুর হাঁটা,
কিন্তু আমার হৃদয়টা হয়ে উঠেছিল একটা গাছ।

Ans.The poet came twice awake when the old woman opened up her little bag which had his secret.
(b) What would happen to the poet if he failed to make the promise?
Ans. If the poet failed to make the promise, the black oak bark would wrinkle over him and root him among the oaks where he was born but never grew.
(c) What was it that altered the poet?
Ans.It was the dream of an oakwood beneath the boughs that altered the poet

4. Change the following into indirect speech:
(a) Rahul asked Dipa, "Will you go to school today?"
Ans. Rahul asked Dipa whether she would go to school that day.
(b) Rita said to Ayesha, "Please give me a glass of water."
Ans. Rita requested Ayesha to give her a glass of water.
(c) The old man told the little girl. "May you be happy!"
Ans. The old man wished the girl happiness.
5.Do as directed:
(a) Ranjan said, "Who does not know the name of Rabindranath?"
(Change into affirmative sentence)
Ans. Ranjan said. "Everybody knows the name of Rabindranath."
(b) Sangeeta runs faster than any other girl in her class.
(Rewrite using the positive degree of faster)
Ans.No other girl in Sangeeta's class runs as fast as Sangeeta.
(c) Kaushiki blamed her friend for the trouble. (Rewrite using the noun form of 'blame)
Ans. For the trouble Kaushiki put the blame on her friend.
6. Your school is going to host the Inter-school District Sports Competition. Suppose you are Secretary of the Sports Club of your school. Write a notice (within 100 words) calling students to participate in the competition. Your notice should be countersigned by the Headmistress/Headmaster of your school.

Inter-school District Sports Competition
It is notified that like every year this year too we are going to host the Inter-school District Sports competition. Ten other schools are participating in this event and there will be various categories such as 100 metres, 200 metres and 500 metres flat race, long jump, ball throw,tug- of -war etc. It will be held in Rabindra Sarovar Stadium on 22nd December. The event will begin at 9.30 in the morning and continue till late afternoon. Food packets will be distributed among all the participants as well as the volunteers. I earnestly request all the students to
take active part in this event and help our school emerge as a winner. For further information interested students can contact me during the recess.
